This photograph gives the viewer the chance to see the locations of various stores in the Colonnade building. Furthest to the left is the awning for T.C. Andrew Dry Goods Store. Thomas C. Andrew (1848-1930), opened his store on Main Street in April 1881. It was heavily damaged by the April 18, 1882. He didn't let that stop him. In 1911, he moved into the Colonnade building. After his death in 1930, the business remained in operation. It closed in the mid 1960's.
The next awning is Tisdale Drug Store. It opened in approximately 1895 on Lexington Avenue and moved to the Colonnade building in 1911. Forrest Tisdale (1876-1940) sold the business to Roy Falk Drug Store in Jan 1947. F.H. Tisdale published many Sweet Springs postcards.
The next awning is the Smith Bros. Store. Rufus E. Smith (1852-1928) started the business as a grocery store on Lexington Avenue in January 1882. In 1904, he entered into a partnership with his brother, John D. Smith, to open a general merchandise store. They moved into the Colonnade building in 1911. The location is what we often refer to as the Mattingly's store. The business closed in July 1928.
